Katie's Tribute
Katelynn R. Hargrove
Katie is my little rainbow child. Nothing brings her down for long and when things are stormy she shines! This child’s sunny disposition is enough to make me want to hug her all the time. She dances around the house, making up songs and singing ones she's heard on the radio. Katie's smile lights up any room. Her strong compassion is one of her best characteristics. When I'm sad she gives me a stuffed animal to cuddle with and a tissue. When I'm happy she wants to watch a movie, bake or shop. She's the ultimate shopping buddy! Her mind will surprise you, she's as smart as she is beautiful.
Katie is strong, smart, sensitive, creative and hilarious. This is one little girl who thinks outside of the box. Unlike her brother, she's outgoing, always wanting to visit her friends. Katie taught me a lot about the world outside of my safe zone. Often she is my partner in 'crime'. I'm so grateful she can hold a conversation and boy does she ever! She teaches me something new every day. Katie has always excelled at problem solving and reasoning through situations. When she was little (2 years old) and started saying the word, "NO". I would tell her, "Give me 3 reasons why 'no' is a good answer." She did. I'd help her decide if her reasons were good enough and we'd count 3 of them. Of course this came back on me. There were several times when 3 reasons were just too easy. I had to raise the number of reasons to 4 and 5 and so on. This is how she learned to count to 10. She also learned that "NO" is rarely a good idea. In fact she's learned that "NO" will cause a long conversation with mom, in which there is no winning. Katie's first name Katelynn, means, "Purity" regardless of her experiences she has this wonderful pure soul. Her middle name, Rose comes from the Flower. Which is a much stronger plant then people give it credit for. If a rose doesn't receive enough water or its elements aren't maintained, it will grow thorns to protect it's self. It's wonderful to watch bloom, and grow, but should not be overly manipulated. Or removed from it's rich nurturing soil.
The morning Katie was born I held her as I looked through the hospital window at a small church. The sun rose over that Holy building, the sun brought with it vibrant orange, pink and blue. Even now it's the most memorable sun rise I've ever seen. God smiled on me that day and he smiles on my family through Katie. She encourages the best from me. At 11 months old she learned to walk. My aunt told me, "Before you know it she'll be holding your hand walking through the park." When I realized my aunt was right... I cried out of happiness at the thought. Katie rides her bike through the park now, racing me. And I couldn't be happier. When she was a baby and would cry, people asked me, "How can you handle that screaming?" I'd smile and tell them, "I'm so grateful that she can scream. I thank God every day that she can wake me up to let me know she needs something." It's hard for me to put into words just what she means to me. Katie means the world to me (as does Tristan) together, they make my world go around. For Katie songs keep coming to mind, some of them are, "My girl", "You are my sunshine", and "Don't let the sun go down on me".
Katie likes bright cheerful colors most.
I painted this picture for Katie last year. Surprisingly this kitty looks a lot like the one she chose for her birthday this year.
Katie calls this guy 'Nemo" but I don't think it looks like the cartoon character.
Katie spends a lot of time with our pets. You can hardly see Abby at the bottom of this photo.

Katie asked me to paint her a picture of the universe, so here it is.
Katie always has a smile ready.
